The Diet Book of a High Performer. The Ketogenic Bible.
The Diet Book of a High Performer.
The Ketogenic Bible.
Just finished this book, kindly sent to me for review and feedback.
My brain had a massive braingasm! It definitely lives up to the title!
The authors, Dr. Jacob Wilson and Ryan Lowery, and all the scientists who collaborated to create this phenomenal piece of work, are extraordinary accomplished pros in the field of nutrition, nutrition therapy, diet for ultimate mental and physical performance, for optimal body composition, diet for maximum energy and minimum health issues.
Look at the table of contents.
If you are not a nutrition geek like me, a lot of terms on the list might be totally new to you, but what I really loved about the book, is that it gives you as much science as you need and might want, going deep into biochemistry and how the diet works on a cellular and molecular levels, but most of the book (even science parts) are written in a great conversational style and easy-to understand engaging language, so that even if you are not into nutrition science but want to really understand why properly designed high-fat aka ketogenic diet works so well for weight loss and weight management, for treating so many very often untreatable conditions, for improving mental and physical performance, for improving dramatically your body composition, melting fat and helping with retaining and building muscle, for cardio-vascular and strength/bodybuilding results – if you want to know why and how it works, and what is a proven fact, a theory and a speculation at this stage – you’ll find all the answers, that can be found at this time.
And if you decide to implement the diet, try it out for yourself for any of the reasons mentioned above – weight loss and improved metabolism, improved leanness (less fat more muscles), reduced hunger and eliminated cravings, mental clarity and enhanced cognitive performance, better fitness and strength, better insulin sensitivity, treating one of the conditions mentioned in the table of contents – if you want to know how to do it properly, so that at the end of the trial period instead of “Oh, another diet that didn’t work”, you got “Holy crap! I didn’t know dieting and losing weight getting stronger could be so much fun!”, if you want to get that, there are plenty of resources in the book. That is what the most of the book is dedicated to – making your journey into ketogenic diet, high-fat moderate-protein low-carb diet, easier, simpler, faster and much much more delicious!
Look at some of the recipes you can enjoy!
Do you know why, I’m so excited about the present and the future of our food culture and nutrition combined? Because now we can have pancakes, cookies and ice-creams with literally ZERO downside! So YES! You can have your cake and eat it too!
In my language: You can eat your cake and have your six pack too!
Side note: I eat chocolate almost every day, 100% cacao (certain kinds, that taste heavenly), or dark or milk chocolate sweetened with stevia, that tastes better than any sugary chocolate you’ve tried. Some days I eat a whole chocolate bar, feeling no guilt at all, because REAL CHOCOLATE is a HEALTHY FOOD.
The book has all the knowledge, tactics, advice, and, of course, the recipes to make low-carb high-fat living, cooking and eating a delicious no-brainer.
I bet, that will be your favorite most-usable part of the book – it’s mine for sure! My personal secret goal is to try every recipe in the book and become an ultimate keto-cook!
I also really appreciated, that the authors addressed all the mistakes people make, all the confusions that exist, when it comes to transitioning to high-fat diet. Dr. Jacob Wilson and Ryan Lowery described all the different kinds of high-fat and low-carb diets, that people with different lifestyles and backgrounds can try – common nutrient deficiencies you want to address to feel your best and make the adaptation to the diet easier, regular-day menu and how it can vary depending on your lifestyle and bio data, cheat days – do’s and don’ts with results and whys, carbs – total, net, glycemic index and load, best carbs sources, sugars and sweeteners – the differences, the OK and NOT OK kinds, why you don’t want to eat too much protein and what is the golden standard for protein for athletes and non-athletes. If you have a question about high fat, ketogenic diet and lifestyle – it’ll be answered there the best way possible!
I absolutely loved one distinct feature of this book, that very few books on diet, health, weight loss, nutrition share, this feature is actually very rare these days to come across.
What is it?
All the conclusions are based on actual, most of which very recent, studies. Resources, papers, studies are all referenced properly, if you want to learn more or want to contact certain scientists and institutions for even more in-depth data.
And when the authors are not sure about something – they tell you their thoughts, probable explanations, very clearly stating, that it is a “thought”, a “possible explanation”, a “theory”. If the data is inconclusive – they tell you exactly that – the data is inconclusive. I personally respect that very much, and see it as a respect to the educated reader, who the authors deeply care about.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, who is even slightly interested in their health, well-being, cognitive and athletic performance, healthy weight and ideal body composition for many years ahead! (Yes, ketogenic diet research shows all the evidence that keto-folks are destined to live longer)
